What does it mean to be AAHA Accredited?

At Halifax Veterinary Hospital Inc. we are focused on always providing your pet with the best possible db23ffc3-470d-41f9-9e9e-ce6fbf3bf399.jpgcare.  That means we are always investing in educating our team, providing the best technology and the best tools to do our job—caring for your cherished pet.

Pet health care is evolving – it’s a fast paced business, and staying on top of the best options for your pet is a huge job, but it’s our passion.

We are so committed to providing your pet the best veterinary care; we put our three animal hospitals through the AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) accreditation program.  Did you know that only 7 clinics in Nova Scotia are AAHA certified (an we are three of them!).  In fact our first Hospital to be certified—Fairview Animal Hospital, has been certified for 27 years.

What does it mean to be AAHA accredited?  It means our clinics and all our procedures and policies atshutterstock_1786267.jpg each hospital were closely scrutinized and evaluated on more than 900 practice standards.  Yes that’s right, an independent body (AAHA), evaluated us on 900 aspects of our practice and we passed them all (with flying colours).  It means we are dotting our I’s and crossing our T’s in all that we do in our clinics.  Considering that you are trusting your cherished pets to us, we think that the highest possible standard of care is just what we need to offer.

Our AAHA certification means you can rest assured that you are dealing with a clinic that has best practices in place to care for your pet.  It’s a great deal of responsibility to be a pet owner but having us there for your veterinary needs means you can focus on all the other responsibilities like: walking, feeding, grooming, socializing and just loving your pet.

You may wonder how AAHA standards influence the care that your pet will receive with us.

  • Standards dictate that our hospitals offer diagnostic services (including x-rays and laboratory and referral services) for the most accurate diagnosis.
  • Considerable focus is on quality of care in the areas of: anesthesia, contagious diseases, dentistry, pain management, patient care, surgery and emergency care.
  • We are required through AAHA to have an onsite pharmacy (another standards area) so that treatment may begin immediately.
  • AAHA Standards dictate that our medical records be thorough—helping our veterinary team better understand your pet’s medical history.

Accreditation helps our veterinary hospitals stay on the leading edge of veterinary medicine and provide the quality and range of services you and your pet deserve?
